Alessandro Mendini, architect, was born in Milan in 1931. He was awarded the Compasso d’oro for design in 1979 and 1981. In 1989 he and his brother Francesco set up Atelier Mendini in Milan, designing two underground stations in Naples, Italy, the Groningen Museum in The Netherlands and the Mendini Gallery at Lorrach, in Germany.
Pen dedicated to the Nobel prize winner for literature, Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison was born at Lorain, Ohio, in 1931. She graduated at Cornell University. She worked as an editor far Random House in New York, where she promoted the most successful works of recent Afro-American literature. She later started to write for the theatre and to publish novels, which deal with the condition of black people, particularly women, in America. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1993, the first black woman to receive this honour.
